GHSA Key Dates

Deadline Requirements


August 1: Psychology Department Online Application Portal Opens

All students participating in a study abroad program are required to first fill out a FIU Study Abroad Program Online Application via the Department of Psychology link. Please note that the required Office of Education Abroad (OEA) application may not available until Septemberber 15; not completing the OEA application on time will NOT affect our consideration of your application. For the OEA application, select the LOGIN option on the upper right hand section of the page. Please note that there are several documents you will be required to submit as part of this application process, so start applying early!


October 15: FIU Education Abroad Online Application Portal Opens

All students should first fill out the Psychology Department Online Application (see above). Then be sure to complete the OEA application by the posted date; just select the LOGIN option on the upper right hand section of the page. Please note that there are several documents you will be required to submit as part of this application process, so start working on this application before the October 1st deadline.


November 1: Offical Application Deadline

The GHSA Program uses a rolling admission process. This means students applications will be reviewed as they are received and decisions will be made within two weeks of this review. For this reason, students are encourged to apply earlier than this deadline. Applications made after November 1st are less likely to be considered as we have always filled the available slots by this date.


November 15: Selected Participants Notified

All students fully accepted into the program and those who have been wait listed will be contacted by email by 11pm on this date. This email will provide information about what next steps are required and key due dates.


December 1: First GHSA Program Payment Due

The first GHSA Program payment of $500 is due at 5pm today. Payment information will be posted in your Student Financials sections of Panthersoft.


January TBA: Mandatory GHSA Fellows Meeting (Program Orientation)

Selected participants will meet for the first time to learn the details about the program. This will be an overview that dives in deeper than initial interview and presentation talks.


February 1: Second GHSA Program Payment Due

The second GHSA Program payment is due at 5pm today. Payment information will be posted in your Student Financials sections of Panthersoft.


February 15: Scan of Passport Photo Page Due

One of the early excursions we take is into the tribal villages. To get there we will be taking an overnight train ride. In preparation for this trip, everyone must email Dr. Stephens a scanned copy of the full first photo page of your passport; your train ticket cannot be booked without this per Indian Government regulations.


February TBA: Mandatory GHSA Fellows Meeting (Academic Preparations)

This meeting will focus on what the courses entail and what assignments are expected as part of the program. Details, including resources, will be posted on the external course website.


February TBA: Family & Friends' Get Together

We realize that your family or significant others may be interested in finding out more about your trip, and wanting to meet some of the people you will be traveling with. So we will be hosting a get together for all participants and their family/ friends on a Saturday in February at Dr. Stephens's home. This is an optional event; you are not required- but encouraged- to attend with your loved ones.



March 1: Third GHSA Program Payment Due

The third GHSA Program payment is due at 5pm today. Payment information will be posted in your Student Financials sections of Panthersoft.


March TBA: Mandatory GHSA Fellows Meeting (Cultural Humility)

This orientation meeting will provide students with information specific to India and our program. We will discuss cultural values, awareness and cross cultural respect. Prior GHSA Fellows will also attend to share their experiences. Additionally, time will be spent discussing the upcoming airfare purchasing process.


March TBA: Airfare Purchased

To keep the airfare costs low and ensure everyone arrives together, there is the option to be part of a group booking for flights. We strongly encourage students to fly to India as a group as the cost of the bus transfer from the Banglore airport to Mysore is included in the cost of the program. On this date, those part of the group booking will make a one time $100 non- refundable deposit for their airplane ticket to the identified travel agent. This $100 will go toward your total fare costs which will be due one week later. At this time, students planning to travel to other countries at the end of the program must let the travel agent know they only need a one way ticket.



April 1: Fourth GHSA Program Payment Due

The final GHSA Program payment is due at 5pm today. Payment information will be posted in your Student Financials sections of Panthersoft.


April TBA: Mandatory GHSA Fellows Meeting (Safety & Travel)

May TBA: Mandatory GHSA Fellows Meeting (Departure & Travel Instructions)

This final pre- departure meeting will provide GHSA Fellows with information specific to our travel plans. We will discuss final departure issues including where to meet the driver upon arrival, host gifts, and international travel suggestions.
