Nimithamohan K.
JSS Medical School

Namitha completed her Masters of Public Health (MPH) required internship at PHRII in summer 2022. During her time at PHRII, Namitha chose to examine  the menopausal symptoms and support received among the rural women’s across Mysore district. She also gained skills in mixed methodologies and applied global health training.

Divya K. L.
JSS Medical School

Divya is earning her Masters of Public Health (MPH) at the JSS Medical School. As part of  her practicum project at PHRI, Divya  worked on a study that looked at menopausal symptoms and perceived social support among rural women in the Mysuru district. Divya assisted health outreach workers surveying women in tribal villages.

Ika Lin
University of Arizona

Ika is earning her BS in Nuero and Cognitive Science at the University of Arizona- Tuscon. She spent her time working on lab protocols to isolate miRNA from serum samples using the Qiagen miRNeasy kit. She also assited Dr. Subbarao of JSS Medical College with  runing cDNA synthesis and RT-qPCR with RNA samples

Madison Shine
University of Hawai’i at Manoa

Madison, a Kinesiology Major, was awarded a MHIRT internship through the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.This program select a few students and sends them abroad to different developing countries to learn the culture and help conduct medical research. Madison examined HSV-2, Herpes Simplex Virus type 2, and the correlation that has with coinfection of HIV.

Claire Helpingstine
Florida International University

Claire was awarded an NIH Global Health Equity Scholar Predoctoral Fellowship to examine Indian formal support provider's perceptions and experiences working with survivors of sex trafficking. The goal of this project is to provide recommendations for addressing sex trafficking. Due to Covid- 19, Claire, a Developmental Psychology doctoral student worked with PHRII remotely.

Ruhika Prasad
Emory University

Anthropology major Ruhika engaged in qualitative maternal child health focused research while at PHRII for her undergraduate project. An anthropology student, her honors thesis based upon this work was titled "Mental Illness and Pregnancy among Women in Mysore, India: Health Provider and Women's Perspectives".

Kim Yen Nguyen
University of Hawai’i at Manoa

Kim was awarded a MHIRT internship through the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. A Biology major, Kim's interests in maternal child health and global health broadly brought her to PHRII. She spent her time learning about adverse birth outcomes among rural Mysore pregnant women.

Milani Kyaw
University of California- Berkeley

Milani was awarded a MHIRT internship through the University of California- Berkeley. A major in Allied Health Science and a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies, She spent her time working on the HIV and maternal transmission risk project.
